Balachandran more commonly known as 'Balu', was born in 1953 as the son of late Mr. N R Kamath and Mrs. K S Rajammal. He graduated in Political science and a diploma holder in Public relations and Advertising as also in Journalism.

He joined Indian Bank in 1975 and in 2001 took an early retirement.

His first cartoon appeared "Cinerama cine magazine" in 1969.
Since then he has contributed a number of cartoons and comic strips to various publications.

His wife is RITA, an Officer in Canara Bank. Two children, a daughter RIBA PRIYA and a son RIBIN.
